Ridgeway Cider Co.

Brand Design • Visual Identity • Marketing Material Design

THE BRIEF

Ridgeway Cider Co. has been crafting award-winning cider from the orchards at Ridgeway Farm in Devon since 2014, built on traditional methods, natural ingredients, and a deep respect for the land. When owners Jake and Rosina took over the family business from Rosina's mum, they came to me with a clear sense of what Ridgeway stood for, but a brand identity that wasn't quite telling that story. The existing logo had heart, but no strategy behind it. As Ridgeway entered this new chapter, it needed a visual identity that honoured everything that came before it while feeling like a confident, modern step forward.

THE WORK

Everything started (as everything should!) with strategy. Ridgeway's core values - heritage, togetherness, and craft - shaped every creative decision we made. The new identity needed to work across product labels, flyers, social media and the website, so cohesion was as important as looking good.

A logo doesn’t need to tell your whole brand story, but Ridgeway’s does - though only if you know where to look for it! Every element within the brand icon was hand-drawn to honour the handcrafted nature of the cider, and every detail means something. The ridges and roots at the base of the icon were inspired by the deep grooves of the traditional press they use to make the cider. The square container references the crates used to collect apples in the orchard. The apple tree from their previous logo was refined and brought forward - retaining the recognition the brand had already built. Seven leaves on the tree and seven roots make fourteen in total, a little nod to the year Ridgeway was founded. And two apples sit in the branches of the tree - one for Jake and one for Rosina, who are leading Ridgeway in this new chapter.

The product label redesign gave each of Ridgeway's four products its own personality and story to tell, whilst keeping the new Ridgeway identity intact. All icons are hand-drawn in the same organic style as the main brand mark. Vintage, their dry cider, is a rich red with an apple icon built from two overlapping squares - another echo of the brand icon's container. Hooty Owl is a deep blue with an owl. Rogus Moon is the core Ridgeway Green with a moon and stars. Ginger Switchel, their alcohol-free cordial, is warm yellow with a botanical leaf and vine. Together they feel like a range worth sharing, and worth collecting!

The full delivery included a logo suite, brand guidelines, colour palette, typography, brand icons, social media templates, product labels, mockups and an information postcard.

THE OUTCOME

Ridgeway Cider Co. has launched their new identity to a warm reception, and the new product labels are heading into production. Jake told me the rebrand feels empowering, that they now have all the tools to move into this next chapter with confidence. With plans to expand the range and host supper clubs celebrating the versatility of their cider, Ridgeway's story is well and truly just getting started!
